Fishing

Today's species: Mangrove Jack

Today's tip: These are predatory fish that feed most actively during run-out tides. Against popular opinion Mangrove Jack are roaming fish and are generally found along deep edges of outer

corners of rivers and where feeder creeks meet larger estuaries. Use approximately 90- centimetre barra orientated lures (44-pound fluorocarbon leaders) and retrieve slowly.

Best time to fish: In the summer months.

Best bait: Live mullet.

Best location:

Mid-north coast and top end of Australia.
