What I Like About Wollongong

Illawarra Mercury

Tuesday June 10, 2008

It's 5.30pm and I've been in the car for three hours. The sun has begun to creep down behind the mountain, casting an orange glow on the sky above.

The car drives around the twists and bends on Mt Ousley Rd. I peek over the immense gum trees lining the side of the road and gaze up on the sheer beauty of Wollongong from above.

The majestic mountains cradle the valley like a mother and child. The pristine, sparkling ocean and yellow sand fringes the east side of the city.

Somewhere out there a family is sitting down to dinner and some mates are having a drink at the brewery before heading down to WIN Stadium to watch the Dragons do battle.

You can feel the town spirit coming up from the streets and buildings as I arrive home.

Wollongong, my home.
